As a non-genetic parent I loved reading this! Thank you.

I agree that "social parent" is an unhelpful phrase. "To parent" is a verb; a parent is someone who parents.

(Interestingly, "mother" is used as something active, but not father. "She mothered me" means care, and "He fathered me" means conception. Of course fathers are active parents too; language evolved that way for cultural reasons long ago.)
